ABOUT PROJECT

평택시 팽성읍 안정리. 그곳에는 미군 위안부라 알려진 기지촌 할머니들이 거주하고 계신다.

프로젝트 ‘한풀이’는 이 할머니들을 작가의 개인적 작품의 피사체가 아닌, 예술의 주체로 끌어올리기 위한 활동이다.

이 활동은 타인들에 의해 쓰여졌다가 타인들에 의해 지워져버린 할머니들의 이름을 스스로의 손으로 새로 기입하기를 바라는 시도이다. 할머니들의 일상적인 활동에 예술이라는 프레임을 제공하여, 할머니들에게 타인과의 새로운 관계를 형성할 계기를 마련해 주고자 한다. 그 새로운 관계가 할머니들을 새로운 사회적 관계망 속으로 배치할 것이다. 설혹 할머니들의 평생이 그러했듯이 또 다른 오역과 시퍼런 주석이 기다리고 있다 하더라도.

生의 의지, 그 의지를 양지바른 곳에 피우는 것. 작가는 할 수 없어도, 예술은 할 수 있을 것이라 믿어본다. 그녀들의 삶이 예술 안에서라도 그 한을 풀어볼 수 있기를.

There is the place where old women live, who called ‘American Comfort Woman’.

The art project ‘HanPuRi’ is an Activity for making them as addresser of art, not as subject.

This activity is a challenge for them and by themselves. They shall write their own name(which deleted by others) on society. We shall make a new frame(which called ‘Art’) and that shall recover their daily life, and that makes them a chance of new social communication. And that new connection shall replace them on new social relation networks, Even some mistranslation and annotation.

The Will to live. And make that ‘Will’ blossom in the sun. That should be hard to Artist. But we believe ‘Art’ can. We wish, life shall be release on art, at least.
